Based of a location that lives within my imagination and fueled by a little autumn inspiration, this painting totally captures my love for cabin life. I find myself completely captivated with the colors and immersed in the sense of stillness within this one. The cool Autumn air, warm sunset, the smell of smoke lingering, and of course family... This one has got to be one of my favorites yet.

Based off of a local mountain range near I live, this painting captures what I often dream about. Through thousands of miles of hiking over this past year, I often have daydreamed of the perfect scene inspired by what's around me.
When I first laid my eyes upon this mountain horizon at sunrise, I knew I had to paint it. I imagined a perfect place with a backdrop like the one I saw that morning. Through trial and error, I developed a composition that brought peace and joy to my heart. With the addition of the elk, I could envision a spot that became a perfect portrayal of my dreams and what I love most about the mountains. This painting is truly the place of dreams for a wanderer like myself.

"Returning Home"
I had found this barn while out exploring the countryside earlier in the year which began as the foundation for this painting. Later on, I had discovered another ranch with a creek flowing through the yard which inspired the foreground. I wanted this painting to depict the peacefulness and beauty of the valleys near where I live.
I never knew how much waterfowl Western Montana had, particularly Mallards. They fill the ponds and rivers by the thousands each fall and winter. The lowland farms and ranches attract a number of them to their pastures and yards. Recently they've been taking flight again after rearing their broods and molting. It inspired me to make them the focus of this piece.

It wasn't looking like I could make it much further as the snow was still waist deep. To my surprise, the morning brought one of the most beautiful views, and right next to camp! "Late Summer"
I think what inspired me to paint this, aside from actually getting out and Gathering the reference, was the love I have for the countryside from where I grew up. Even though this scene takes place near my home in southwest Montana, in a sense, it brings me back East.
The river bottoms in Montana are lush Wildlife corridors. With dense brush, large trees, and miles of rolling farmland, I'm often reminded of the land back home. Those cool late summer and early fall evenings. With the Sound of insects Awakening, a slight breeze against the grass, wildlife on the move... I can almost imagine myself there.

Sometimes it's easy to take for granted what's right near where you live. I was reminded of that this past week when I spent some time traveling around the local countryside. It had been so long since I had been up the Yellowstone River. We had some beautiful weather along with some stunning scenery. I was inspired to paint this by a particular mountain I had seen along the way. The foreground was inspired by another spot and I knew that together it would bring the viewer to the most amazing place in time. I can still hear the sound of the river and the smell of the high mountain air.

Bighorn sheep, elk, bison, pronghorn, and many others roam the vast and rugged countryside. The mule deer however is one of my most favorite animals to roam this land. I can almost smell the crisp mountain air and the smoke from the wood stove inside. I imagine someone inside enjoying a morning meal before the start of the day. The air is cool and the faint sound of geese and birds echo through the landscape. As the morning sun breaks over the mountains and into the valley a bull elk makes a brief appearance as he cruises in search of cow.

Autumn will always be a time of year I hold closest to my heart. The cool fresh air, the ripe smells, the sound of blowing leaves, and of course the approaching holidays. As a very young boy in the late 80's and early 90's, I recall faint memories of those old Mom and Pop stores along the countryside. Most were beginning to age as they neared their last years of a long and happy business. It was the spot for a little food, gas, and all sorts of goodies. Those old places seemed to have vanished with the times, but those memories I have when we would stop in for some ice cream while we gassed up the boat will last forever. I'm taken to an imaginary place in this painting that was fueled by those very memories and inspiration. A family stops in for a little treat and some fall decorations in this piece I titled "The Harvest Moon."

The Western states have certainly had an impact on my life. Exploring the extreme remote wilderness that lies within the Rockies has been life changing. I began this painting with the backdrop of St. Mary's Lake in Glacier National Park, MT. From there I brought in all the inspiration that this brilliant countryside of the American West has given me. I imagine a long time ago. A couple early explorers find a place to setup camp for the night near a friendly homestead. A lone rider leads his team of pack mules back to his home after a long days travel. A moment that could truly stop time right in it's tracks. I can almost feel the cool mountain air settling into the valley for the night.

When you travel deep into the mountains where wolves are more common, what takes my breath away more than anything is the environment. I imagine high up on the side of a steep mountain. There's nothing I've experienced quite like Northern Alaska. My expectations were far exceeded not only by how beautiful the countryside was, but also how difficult the terrain was. How do I know that I'll like my painting once it arrives without seeing it in person prior to purchasing?
I strive to take the highest quality photos of my artwork to display on the product pages. Most images of the art itself are professional imaged and color corrected to the original artwork by professionals. I photograph my framed art and wall photos with a DSLR camera and professional quality lighting. If for some reason you are unhappy with the painting once you receive it then you may return it to the address provided and I will refund your money granted the art is returned in good condition. Insurance is the responsibility of the customer for return postage.
Can I return my purchase if I'm not happy?
Yes, you may return your purchase if you are unhappy with it. If the item is returned in good condition you will receive a refund of the purchase price. Shipping costs are not refunded and insurance on return postage is your responsibility. Please contact me before returning your item, thank you!
