"High-country Love"
Late Fall has to be my absolute favorite time of year. When the mountains begin to get the early snow falls while the aspen still hold their colorful leaves, the combination of colors simply inspires me! Of course, love is also in the air as the deer begin their rut. In this scene I imagine an old timer making their way out the mountains to escape the harshness of the coming winter. Or perhaps this is modern day camper who prefers the traditional pleasures while exploring the mountains. Either way there's something about this painting that gives me that feeling of total bliss. Oh and by the way, can you spot the elk?

"Royal Beauty"
This oil painting on canvas is a landscape I'll never forget. Spending some time up here below this magnificent mountain peak was an incredible time and I wanted to honor this place in this new painting of mine. I wanted to capture a sense of stillness and solitude as a whole within this scene. That moment when the sun peaks over and touches the mountainside for the first time in the morning has got to be almost my favorite time of day, and when the blue sky contrasts that I am always in complete awe.

"Reflections Of Past"
Each afternoon the breeze makes a shift in the valleys. The air starts to show hints of cooler temperatures. The sun has disappeared beyond the high peaks and the slow transition to darkness begins. As sunset looms on the horizon, the cold air sets in, filling the valley's floor.
There's always one last moment that catches me eye this time of day. As the woods darken with the sunset, they begin to glow a final time as the sun illuminates the atmosphere above with brilliant shades of pink and orange. I find myself always taking one more glimpse up into sky at this moment, savoring the last bit of day and allowing me a moment to reflect.

"When Time Slows"
When out in this disconnected part of the world, time feels as if it slows down as the smaller things become seemingly more significant. Experiences like this fuel my desire to share and create. This is the first large piece in a series of paintings that I intend to capture my feelings and appreciation for this vastly remote area.

"Restored Beauty"
This painting is based off a wetland in Minnesota. When I worked for the USFWS one summer I helped restore drained wetlands near the town of Fergus Falls. My old supervisor had brought me back to a spot last year I had helped survey before my job ended there. The last time I had seen this location it was more or less a pasture of grass. A few years later and wow! What a success story. They do such great work there at the Fish and Wildlife Service and it just shows the how much of a positive impact the duck stamp program has on our lands.
I tried to capture this spot in such a way that honored its beauty. A pair of birds cruise by one cool fall evening, just as the sun peeks through before setting.

"Eternal Reign"
Exploring the high deserts of Utah was something I'll never forget and surely be doing again in the future. We saw so many beautiful landscapes and areas while we were there. The one thing in particular that was a constant throughout however, was the unpredictable weather.
It didn't matter where we went, the small, yet powerful storms seemed to roll by all day every day, and I was totally captivated. It got me thinking about the role that weather plays in our environment and the tremendous impact it's had on that area. Water has basically shaped everything at some point in time and virtually nothing has escaped that. One by one the storms roll by, gradually contributing to the ever-changing landscape.
In a way, Mother Nature has never lost. She always finds a way to humble anything in her path while at the same time showing her beauty as she continues her eternal reign over the land.
